Machine Screen & Controller Services — Port Douglas & Mossman

Mossman Mill, MainStream Aquaculture, and resort building management systems. From sugar processing to fish farm monitoring to hotel HVAC.

Port Douglas and Mossman run a surprising amount of automated equipment. The most northern sugar mill in Australia, one of the country's largest barramundi farms, and a strip of resort properties that all depend on building management systems to keep guests comfortable and costs down.

What We Service Here

Mossman Mill / Far Northern Milling — Australia's most northern sugar mill, crushing since 1897. Cooperative-owned by ~110 local growers, crushing around a million tonnes of cane per season. Standard mill automation: boiler controls, cane handling, juice processing, centrifuges, and turbine governors. The Daintree Bio Precinct concept aims to transform the mill into a bio-refinery producing renewable energy, sustainable aviation fuel, and renewable diesel — which would mean significant new automation requirements if it proceeds.

MainStream Aquaculture — 60 hectares of production ponds holding a billion litres of water. 28 ponds, approximately 500,000 fish, and production capacity exceeding 2,500 tonnes of barramundi per year. This is a heavily automated operation: water quality monitoring PLCs (dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, salinity), automated feeders, aeration pump controllers, and telemetry across the entire site. If an aerator controller fails overnight, fish die. Response time is critical.

Resort Building Management Systems — Sheraton Grand Mirage and multiple other resort properties along Four Mile Beach run Honeywell, Johnson Controls, or Siemens BMS platforms controlling HVAC, pool systems, kitchen ventilation, laundry, and back-of-house refrigeration. Many of these properties are 20-30 years old with aging controllers that are approaching end-of-life. Guest Room Management Systems in the larger hotels control individual room HVAC, lighting, and blinds — hundreds of room controllers across a single property.

Port Douglas Challenges

Aquaculture is a 365-day operation. Fish don't take holidays. If a water quality controller or aerator fails, the clock starts immediately — MainStream needs someone who can diagnose remotely and get on-site fast if needed.

Resort properties run 24/7 year-round. A failed chiller plant controller at 2pm on a 35°C day means guests in rooms with no air conditioning. BMS maintenance is typically scheduled for the wet season (quieter tourist period), but breakdowns don't wait for convenient timing.

Salt air corrosion on the coast accelerates equipment degradation. Outdoor controllers, pump house panels, and anything near the pool plant area get eaten by the salt. Regular backup is essential because the hardware will fail — it's just a matter of when.

Don't Wait for a Breakdown.

Whether you need your equipment backed up or you're already dealing with a failure — we can help.
